April is National Volunteer Month, and although we make volunteering a part of our lifestyle year-round, we really want to encourage you all to take time out of your busy life to spend some time volunteering during National Volunteer Month.

We’re a veteran-ran family-owned company – serving others is in our blood. While overseas, our main focus was to make sure our brothers and sisters were safe, to get the job done but keep everyone safe and secure. We took these values home with us and have implemented them into Orbis Tech Services. Although, providing safety and security solely through our company was simply not enough, we wanted to make sure we helped with providing safety and security to those in need in our community.

Our Reno-Tahoe community is filled with some amazing non-profit organizations. There are three in particular that we spend a lot of time with. Safe Embrace, Hands of Hope, and The Children’s Cabinet.

Hands of Hope Fresh Foods Bank

Hands of Hope’s mission is to provide fresh food, farmer’s market-style. These items include fresh bread, pastries, fresh fruits and vegetables, deli, pantry items, meats, and dairy products. On occasion, there are other specialty items, too. Every week is different based on the number and types of donations they receive. They have a $10 maintenance fee that is charged per basket/box to help pay for their operations only. Anyone can visit on Saturdays to receive a basket full of fresh food for $10.

On Tuesdays, Veterans, Active Duty, and First Responders can also take advantage of the $10 fresh food basket. They welcome all donations to help in their mission to feed veterans and their families. Learn more about donating.

Safe Embrace

Safe Embrace is dedicated to educating our community and providing services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Their staff and volunteers provide compassionate and trauma-informed services to individuals suffering from current or past domestic violence & abuse, and/or sexual assault. Some of the services they offer include a 24-hour crisis hotline, safety planning, advocacy, therapy, support groups, emergency shelter, pet housing, transitional housing, outreach & prevention education, and sexual assault support services. You can become a volunteer or donate to Safe Embrace.

The Children’s Cabinet

The Children’s Cabinet offers multiple ongoing programs to assist Nevada families and provide essential resources, aid, and service. Their mission is to keep children safe and families together. They offer a wide array of crisis intervention services such as Safe Place, a 24-hour a day, 7 days a week service for youth experiencing violence, abuse or exploitation. You can donate to the Children’s Cabinet at your convenience.

No matter what your passionate about – the environment, child safety, our United States veterans, animals – there is a non-profit organization in Reno-Tahoe that you can work with during National Volunteer Month to give back. We promise, those who are helping will not be the only ones who gain something out of volunteering your time or service.
